FATE SCORES, a short film written and directed by Albert M. Chan, screens at the 2009 Wisconsin Film Festival, Boston International Film Festival, Memphis International Film Festival, and Southeast New England Film, Music & Arts Festival in Providence. The film features Boston studio members Albert M. Chan, Heidi Rhodes, Mary Niederkorn, Jonathan Vittum, Angela Gunn, Brian D. Evans, Kandace Cummings, Katarina Morhacova, and Roxanne Y. Morse.

Albert M. Chan recently spent five weeks portraying Sam in THE GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST (starring Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, and Michael Douglas), which will be in theaters February 2009. He will also appear with Justin Long and John Hodgman in an upcoming Apple commercial as part of their "Get a Mac" advertising campaign.

 

Ann Baker, the "Queen of Casting" recently gave a special presentation at our November 17th class. Ann has 30 years of casting experience and gave our actors insight into the casting process for LA and New York productions.

 

Carter Thor Studio-Boston held a one day Linklater Voice Workshop led by Linklater trained instructor Antonio Ocampo-Guzman as well as a Movement Workshop and Stunt Workshop.

 

  • Jeff Hammond and Ashleigh Harrington's film, Running on Empty, won the Viewers Choice Award at the Toronto Urban Film Festival.
  • Jonathan Robbins' film, Subway Fantasy, and Melissa Hood's film, The Remains of the Date, were accepted to the Toronto Urban Film Festival. Broken Lines, a WWII short starring Jonathan Robbins, won the People's Choice Award at the Speak Out Film Festival, as well as Best Film of theYear.
  • Jeff Hammond directed the short film "Bobbing for Apples," a top finalist in the YouTube's "Project Direct" sponsored by Fox Searchlight. The film featured Ashleigh Harrington, Liz Harpur, and Jamie Spilchuk. View the film.
  • Katya Gardner is starring alongside Maria del Mar in the feature film Touch of Grey, currently shooting in Toronto.
  • Jonathan Robbins has just wrapped the leading role in the 35mm short Sorry for the Inconvenience.
  • Darrell Dennis's feature project, Tales of an Urban Indian (based on his play of the same name), has been selected for the 2008 Screenwriters Lab at the prestigious Sundance Institute.
  • Jamie Spilchuk recently wrapped a role in the film adaptation of the bestselling novel The Memory Keeper's Daughter, which also stars Emily Watson, Dermot Mulroney, and Gretchen Mol.
  • Peter Nelson plays a key supporting role in the feature film "Dark Rising," now available across Canada on DVD. He also recently completed a role in the feature "Guinea Pigs."
  • Dawn Cox shot a guest starring role on the W Network series "The Smart Woman Survival Guide," set to air in the spring.
  • Lisa Warner recently guest starred on the Showcase series "Billable Hours."
  • Al Bernstein has appeared in numerous productions in New York and Toronto, including the TV shows "Street Time" and "Sue Thomas F.B.Eye," the films "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and "Godsend," and the plays "Riff Raff," "Measure for Measure," "Sight Unseen," "King Lear," and "Will" (an original work of his own). Al is also the Associate Artistic Director of the Alley Theatre Workshop in Toronto.
  • Miranda Handford plays the leading role in "Can You Wave Bye-Bye?" which screened as part of the Toronto International Film Festival's Short Cuts Canada program. More information (read the on-line synopsis at your own risk, as it spoils the ending!)
  • The short film "Your Ex-Lover is Dead," starring Geneviève Cholette, Sean Clement, Jonathan Robbins, Peter Nelson, and Adrian Roberto, written and directed by Jonathan Robbins, and produced by Darren Adderley, previewed at the Sundance Film Festival last year and has been invited to premiere at HDHouse at this coming year’s festival. 
  • Shane Daly plays “Burr Baldwin” in 20th Century Fox’s “Firehouse Dog,” which opened in theatres April 4. In the past year, Shane has also shot supporting roles in ESPN’s “Codebreakers,” starring Scott Glenn, and ABC’s “The Path to 9/11.” Most recently, he booked an episode of the new series “The Murdoch Mysteries.” 
  • Jonathan Robbins has shot two more commercials for 3M Privacy Filters and plays the leading role in the WWII film “Broken Lines,” which will be playing at the Toronto International Film Festival. A music video he directed, set to “9 Crimes” by Damien Rice, can be seen on YouTube. Check out his production company website and his acting website
  • Jonathan Baldock is the host of a new sports betting TV show called “Playing the Odds,” which will run for 13 weeks on MenTV (a Global Digital channel) this summer. 
  • Katya Gardner recently starred in the Lifetime movie “Cheater’s Club,” as well as the upcoming feature film “Stir of Echoes: The Dead Speak,” opposite Rob Lowe. 
  • Darrell Dennis was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for “Indian Summer: The Oka Crisis” at the American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco.
  • Several members of Thor East Toronto traveled to Los Angeles this past spring to support “The Getaway,” a short film that was nominated for Best Comedy at the F.A.I.F Film Festival. Sean Clement, Mark Robinson, Geneviève Cholette, Chris Whitby, Mathew Lyons, Rhea Akler, and Andrea Lui starred in the film, which was written and directed by Dave Renaud. The film was also awarded an Audience Choice Award an the Washington D.C. Short Film Festival.
  • Chris Whitby and Geneviève Cholette co-starred in a short film that won first place at the Toronto Curiosity Film Festival.

  • Kirstin Hinton played Diane Anderson in a miniseries for CBS titled “The Hades Factor.” She has also completed the leading role of Hailey in “Empty Room,” a Canadian Film Centre short directed by Sheila Pye. Visit Kirstin’s website.
  • Rhea Akler played Rona Radler, wife of Conrad Black’s right-hand man David Radler in “Shades of Black,” a movie of the week about Black produced for CTV. 
  • Tyler Gallagher played a regular role on “Beach Girls” for Lifetime and Fox Television, and also shot a guest lead on “72 Hours” for Global and CBC. 
  • Adrian Roberto filmed a recurring role on the CBC series “11 Cameras,” which aired this past year. 
  • Katya Gardner and Andrea Lui star in the soon to be released feature “The House”.

Albert M. Chan-co-stars in a commercial for the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism that aired on FOX and NESN in Spring 2008. He also reprised his role as Michel Foucault in Queer Theory! An Academic Travesty at the Los Angeles Glorya Kaufman Theater.

 

Heidi Rhodes-appears in the feature films, CONNED produced by Eyeth Films, LIFE, LOVE, LOSS, and two short films FLASHOVER and REVELATION in which she plays the lead. REVELATION screened at the 2007 Boston International Film Festival.

 

Penny Korff has completed filming for her supporting role in the feature film, "Willows Way" with DiBacco Films in Maine.

 

Brian O'Hara and Justin Carrasco have completed principal photography on 8 HOURS, a 35mm short produced in Los Angeles.

 

Roxanne Morse appears in the lead role in "E for All", a commercial for video gaming company, IDG.

 

Mary Niederkorn has been cast in the role of Nora in the feature length film, “Sinking Ships.”

 

Anna Marie Codur appears in the short film “Lyrics of My Life” screening a tthe 2007 Boston International Film Festival in June.

 

Jonathan Fuller plays a cameraman for a fictional reality TV show in a new internet series, “The Gary Wendall Show.”

 

“A Work of Fiction”, Mark Heatherington's feature film debut won Best Feature and Best Original Score at the 2007 Victory Dance Film Festival in April.

  • Professional stuntwoman Kim-du Trinh is doing a stunt fight class to train students in the basics of on-camera stunt work. Kim will be holding one every Sunday afternoon according to demand. The class is $25 and enquiries can be made through the Course Producer.
  • The Montreal Studio is now offering Chi Kung for Actors with Catherine Lipscombe. Catherine has been teaching Yoga, Chi Kung, Contemporary Dance and creative workshops in Montreal since  1998. She studied Butoh dance in Japan with Min Tanaka and Khazuo Ohno and was an artist in residence in a dance company in Buenos Aires. As a dancer and choreographer, her Dance-Theatre company MANGE MES PIEDS has toured internationally since 2000 in Japan, Greece,Czech Republic, Portugal and Mexico.   • Daniel Giverin just finished playing the envoy from the British home Office and delivering the "Call to Adventure" to Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello in "The Mummy Three". He also played "Glen Reid", the star-crossed Husband of Marina Hands (Cesar winner for best actress in "Lady Chatterley") in the France/Quebec co-production, "The Story of Jen".
  • Sylvia Stewart played "Officer Carlucci" in the Movie of the Week "Voices" for the Lifetime Channel.
  • Adrianne Richards is a lead in "Zachary Samuel: illusionist" directed by Benjamin Steiger Levine. It has been accepted into Festival des Films du Monde (23 août au 3 septembre 2007), Festival Off-Courts de Trouville (France) (31 août au 8 septembre 2007), and also Raindance Film Festival (England) (26 septembre au 7 octobre 2007).
  • Craig Thomas recently played Black Panther co-founder Huey Newton in Todd Haynes new Bob Dylan bio-pic...“I'm Not There.” He was also in Black Theater Workshop’s production of “The Lady Smith,” which was recently nominated for The Best Show of the Year by the Sounds of Blackness Awards.
  • Carlo Mestroni has a large principal in “Blind Trust,” a principal role in “The Debbie Smith Story: A Life Interrupted,” guest stars on “Prank Patrol,” as well as parts in “Durham County,” “Banshee,” “Still Life,” and “La Lacheté.”
  • Emma Sara plays the lead in “God's Little Girl,” directed by Mitch Davis, and produced by Infliction films. (It will be featured in the Rendez-Vous film festival this Friday, February 23 at 9:45pm, at Cinematheque Quebecoise, 335 de Maisonneuve E, tickets 7-8$ at the door.)
  • Carinne Leduc has a lead in a feature film called “3 Saisons.” She co-wrote it with the director, Jim Donovan.
  • Carinne LeducNiko Nikolov, and Emma Sara are shooting a short film entitled “Vengance.” It will be an Actra independent production. They are the actors and producers and Carinne and Emma are the writers too. Our director will be Philippe Montpetit.
  • Adrianne Richards has a supporting lead for Lifetime Network, in an MOW called “Circle of Friends,” showing in August.
  • Monique Phillips plays “Daphne“ in a new MOW called ”Thrill of the Kill” by Incendo productions.
  • Techena and Bianca Bellange have a development deal with Telefilm for a half-hour series. Their company name is “Bel Ange Moon Productions Inc.”.
  • Christine Lan was in a short film “Thin Walls,” which premiered at the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival as part of the Reel Shorts Programme WHAT IT FEELS LIKE FOR A GRRL.
